Q&A With Michael J. Bassett #3 (Silent Haven)Date published: 2011.02.07 Q: Will professional dancers be involved as role of the monsters like the first film? Bassett: Dancers specifically? Not necessarily but it’s important that my monster performers must all have interesting physical skills and control of their bodies. Dancers, martial artists, gymnasts… those kinds of folks. Q: Can you shed some light on Heather’s character or role in the movie? Bassett: For the movie, I’m interested in a character who demonstrates some genuine human responses to the terrible things she experiences. If it doesn’t ring true then no matter what happens on the screen you’re not going to feel involved and concerned. Q: When are you building the set of the film? Bassett: Starting very soon. Q: Will the ’3D’ be in the official title? Bassett: The ’3D’ isn’t in my title. It will be up to individual distributors to decide how they push the ’3D-ness’ of it all. Remember, the film hasn’t been made and no part of the public promotion has been created yet, so anything you see at this stage is for internal ‘business’ use only. Q: Have you considered Whitney Able from 2010 film “Monsters” as a prospect for Heather? Cannot find when she was born so I don’t know if she could pull off 18, but I felt she had a great look for Heather. Bassett: I’m a huge fan of Monsters (even if the title is horribly misleading) and yes, it did cross my mind that Whitney Able might be right for Heather. A little too ethereal though, I think. Q: Has a budget been set in stone yet? I’m sure you’re probably not allowed to say the amount, but are you happy with what you were given? Bassett: Can’t make any budget comments really. Though, I think ‘Less’, sums it up nicely. Q: Have you considered Masahiro Ito to pen up some concept art for your team? Bassett: I’m all designed up for the monsters but yes, I love Masahiro Ito’s work. His influence is all over everything. Q: What director do you think would be best for making an adaption of Silent Hill 2? Bassett: (David) Fincher. But then, Fincher for anything. I think Guillermo Del Toro would do something good if he put aside his big hearted romanticism and went really DARK. |
